2004 Carpenter Cup Classic

BURLCO Roster Announced

MAPLE SHADE--The 2004 Burlington County Carpenter Cup roster was announced on Thursday.  The team will practice at Maple Shade High School on June 8, 2004 at 3:30PM and the first game for Burlington County will be on Monday, June 14, 2004 at 4:30PM, against Jersey Shore at the University of Pennsylvania.  The first two rounds are hosted by Penn with the semi-finals and finals at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies.

The pitchers will be seniors Colin Kassekert (Holy Cross), Will O'Connor (Cinnaminson), Sean Doolittle (Shawnee) and juniors Eric Gertie (Cinnaminson) and Matt Ordog (Florence).

The catchers will be seniors Phil Cox (Riverside), Mike Ferrara (Shawnee), Justin Streleckis (Lenape) and sophomore Chris Henderson (Cherokee).

At first base will be senior Ryan Kulik (Cherokee) and junior John Meadus (Holy Cross).

At second base will be seniors Dave Mebs (Cinnaminson) and Dave Neukirch (Shawnee).

At shortstop will be seniors Richard Costa (Holy Cross), Matt Dunaway (Northern Burlington), Dave Lipay (New Egypt), junior Tim McMenamin (Maple Shade) and sophomore Kyle Ballay (Delran).

At third base will be seniors Mike Field (Shawnee) and Mike Milillo (Cherokee).

In the outfield will be seniors Spencer Harvey (Rancocas Valley), Dave Sorrentino (Riverside), Ben Yerkes (Shawnee), Garrett Mull (Lenape), junior Dan Poehls (Delran) and sophomore Brett Arnold (Cherokee).

Shawnee leads the team with five selections, followed by Cherokee with four, Cinnaminson and Holy Cross (three), Riverside, Lenape and Delran (two) and Florence, Maple Shade, New Egypt, Northern Burlington, Rancocas Valley (one).

The head coach is Bud Kowal from Rancocas Valley.

The assistant coaches are Brian Anderson (Shawnee), Rich Carroll (New Egypt), Bill Haessler (Cherokee),  Mike Parker (Burlington Township), Brian David Solomon (Riverside) and Mike Webb (Maple Shade).  John Sacca (ret./Palmyra) is an honorary coach.

The general manager is Jim Varsaci (Maple Shade) and the assistant GM is Tony Lotierzo (Rancocas Valley).

Mebs is a three-time Carpenter Cup selection.  Costa, Doolittle, Ferrara, Harvey, Kassekert, O'Connor and Sorrentino are two-time Carpenter Cup selections.  Kyle Ballay from Delran is an injury replacement for Colin Kassekert from Holy Cross.
