The Carpenter Cup has been a catalyst for many players to receive scholarships or admission to some of the country's finest universities. Additionally many Carpenter Cup participants have gone on to big league careers including Mike Piazza, Ben Davis, Mike Koplove, David Miller and Bobby Higginson.

Played primarily at Veterans Stadium during its first 17 years, the Carpenter Cup moved the preliminary rounds to the University of Pennsylvania's Murphy Field in 2004. The semi-finals and championship game were held at Citizens Bank Park. In the first championship game at Citizens Bank Park Mercer County defeated Tri-Cape 3-1. Renamed in 2006, Meiklejohn Stadium at Penn will again be the site of the preliminary rounds.
