High School Baseball - Opening Round

Burlington County 10, Philadelphia Catholic League 7

 

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—Senior catcher Mike Wasco (Riverside) had two hits and four RBI’s with senior shortstop Justyn Carter (Lenape) adding three hits as Burlington County won its opening round game 10-7 over the Philadelphia Catholic League on Wednesday.

 

Burlington County, the 2006 tournament champion, is now 21-21 in the 23 years of the 16-team, single elimination tournament, sponsored by the Philadelphia Phillies.

 

Junior pitcher Anthony Montefusco (Shawnee) allowed one hit, working the first three innings to pick up the win with senior pitcher Gary Wilson (Cherokee) pitching two innings, recording five strikeouts.

 

Also for BURLCO, senior first baseman Max Himmelstein (Moorestown) and junior Shawn Flynn (Seneca) each had two hits with Flynn hitting a two-run home run in the second inning.

 

Burlington County will play SOL American & Continental on Friday at 12:30pm at the University of Pennsylvania's Meiklejohn Stadium.
