23^rd Annual Carpenter Cup

High School Baseball – Quarter-Finals

SOL American & Continental 7, Burlington County 6 (11 innings)

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—SOL American & Continental used a three base error in center field and one-out RBI single to right in the bottom of the 11^th inning to defeat Burlington County 7-6 in the quarter-finals of the 23^rd Carpenter Cup, sponsored by the Philadelphia Phillies at the University of Pennsylvania’s Meiklejohn Stadium Friday afternoon.

For Burlington County (1-1), Lenape senior Justyn Carter went two for two, including a triple and had two runs scored.  Carter had five hits in the tournament.

Also for Burlco, Rancocas Valley junior Matt Szukis had two hits with Cherokee senior Chris Carlantonio adding a double.

Senior catcher Mike Wasco (Riverside) had an RBI single and walked twice and had five RBI’s in the tournament.  Wasco also threw out two would be base stealers.

Burlington County, the 2006 tournament champion, is now 21-22 in the 23 years of the 16-team, single elimination tournament.

Lenape sophomore Jason Bohrer threw three innings of one-hit ball with Shawnee senior Jon Hydock and Cherokee junior Dan Smith adding a combined three and one-third innings allowing no earned runs as Burlington held SOL American and Continental scoreless from the fifth inning through the 10^th inning as the squad battled back from a 6-2 fourth inning deficit.
