PLUMSTEAD TWP.—Junior Dillon O’Neal had three hits including a double, three RBI and scored twice to lead the Riverside Rams (3-6) to a win in the opening round of the inaugural Burlington County Scholastic League tournament Monday afternoon.
O’Neal picked up his second pitching win of the season with six innings, allowing only four earned runs while recording five strikeouts.
Senior Aaron Miller came on to pitch a scoreless seventh inning, recording two strikeouts.
Also for the Rams, sophomore Tim Borek hit his first home run of the season with senior Kevin Joo adding a triple and junior Dominic Perillo doubling.
Borek and senior Marc Mount each scored three times with Joo adding three RBI.
Senior Don Strain had two hits and is on a five-game hitting streak.
Matt Carroll had three hits and three RBI for New Egypt with Dakota Havens also picking up three hits including a home run. Havens allowed 10 earned runs in four innings of work to pick up the loss.
Riverside scored in six of the seven innings including a five spot in the first.
The Rams avenged a BCSL Freedom Division loss to New Egypt on April 16 when the Warrriors won 13-9 at Hooker Street Field in Riverside.
Riverside broke a four-game losing streak.
This is the first season of the 14-team BCSL tournament which has optional participation. Seeds are based on each team’s 2008 record and the team record through the first three weeks of the 2009 season.
Second round pairings will be announced this week. Each team is guaranteed two games.
Riverside travels to Delran on Wednesday in a BCSL Intra-Division game.
