The Riverside High School baseball team celebrated Mother's Day in two special ways.
The Rams defeated Egg Harbor Township, 8-2, in a nonleague game at Waterfront Park, home of the Class AA Trenton Thunder. They also raised $350 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, South Jersey/Central Jersey affiliate. The gift was achieved by donating one dollar from each ticket sold.
Riverside, which has qualified for the South Jersey Group 1 tournament, took control with a five-run third inning against the Cape-Atlantic League program. EHT made the South Jersey Group 4 tourney.
Mark Cimorelli was the winning pitcher, striking out seven Eagles. McNeil Wrice was 2-for-2, Tim Wasco had two hits and two RBIs, and Dennis O'Hanlan scored two runs.
Riverside head coach Gary Herron managed to spend time with the family. Steve Herron is an EHT assistant coach and brother Jack Herron was the base umpire.
