When Riverside faces Egg Harbor Township at Trenton's Waterfront Park today, members of the Herron family will be everywhere.

In both dugouts. In the stands. In an umpire's uniform.

In other words, to say baseball is an important part of the Herrons' life would be a major understatement.

Gary Herron is the Riverside coach, and his brother Steve is an assistant for Egg Harbor. Their brother Jack will be one of today's umpires. The stands will include their mother, Terry, and their father, Edward ("Red"), a former semipro coach who recently was inducted into the South Jersey Baseball Hall of Fame.

Today's game will follow the 1:35 p.m. double-A contest between the Trenton Thunder and the Bowie Baysox. The Mother's Day game is part of Breast Cancer Awareness Day at the ballpark.

Riverside will donate $1 from each of its tickets sold to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, whose goal is to eradicate breast cancer. "We wanted to do something special since our game is on Mother's Day this year," said Riverside volunteer assistant Brian Solomon, whose Rams will be playing at Waterfront for the fourth time since 2000.
